More critical vulnerabilities in SAP systems

BACKEND SYSTEMS & DATABASES

More critical vulnerabilities in SAP systems
7% more Security Notes with respect to 2013, 46% of them critically + SAP HANA, mobile platforms and SAP users targets of attacks in 2015 + SAP security can no longer be hidden for longer - this is the conclusion of the SAP Security Advisories 2014 to 2015 the Onapsis published.

The expert team of Onapsis Research Labs warns in his new Trend Report for SAP security against the growing threat of SAP systems by threats such as Heartbleed, Shellshock, Poodle and Zombie Zero. The analysis shows that 2014 has increased over the previous year, the number of vulnerabilities and exploits that threaten the security of SAP systems. Elaborate threats that target SAP systems with business-critical applications take, even disproportionately strong. A special focus on SAP HANA, mobile threats and directed to such attacks should be for 2015, which have the SAP user directly in his sights.

This year there were 391 SAP Security Notes, of which 46 percent describe vulnerabilities with high priority. The Onapsis Research Labs report that 44 of these weaknesses, and 35 advisories SAP platform and related products concern, which form the basis for CRM and ERP systems such as SAP HANA, Business Objects and SAP Business Suite.

Organizations using SAP Business Objects to track and analyze business performance and reporting. SAP BASIS, however, is limited to the administrative functions and processes within an SAP system, for example, the database, the supporting architecture and user interface.

Complex attacks, which offset the non-SAP security unrest related and affect SAP platforms. Thus, the most critical threats Heartbleed (CVE-2014-0160), Shellshock (CVE-2014-6271) Poodle (CVE-2014-3566) and malware like Zombie Zero. The increase in the area of complex attacks continued in 2014 continued. This includes also the frequent appearance of malware that is precisely aligned to SAP systems - can spy about the Win32 / Gamker Trojan that SAPGUI client

Data must be protected in the cloud and on terminals

"The security industry has never been as complex as today. Starting next year, more and more companies are revising their strategies and begin or continue their processes to migrate to the cloud," said Ezequiel Gutesman, Director of Research at Onapsis Research Labs. 2015 exploit vulnerabilities in key platforms such as SAP HANA undoubtedly hackers. SAP HANA is a central element of the SAP ecosystem. Therefore, the data stored in the SAP platform data must be protected both in the cloud and on the access devices of end users. SAP redeemed with hope Hana cloud platform only a few million euros

SAP wants to make its database technology Hana standard in the IT industry. An important component in the composite Hana comes through loud an internal paper on the market but not to. Now the software giant is planning drastic discounts to attack the competitors salesforce.

SAP redeemed with hope Hana cloud platform only a few million euros
Hamburg - The software giant SAP has a difficulty, his new database technology Hana to establish themselves in the IT industry. As can be seen from an internal strategy paper of SAP, the company redeemed currently "only one to two million euros in sales per quarter" with his Hana-cloud platform. On this customer and IT specialists, applications that are based on the Hana technology develop, and expand - like this, as do developers for the App Store by Apple for private clients. SAP is planning drastic price reductions.

The weak acceptance of the platform is a setback for the strategy of CEO Bill McDermott and its supervisory board chairman Hasso Plattner, which depends on the product family Hana. The Hana-core product of the company allows it to evaluate data in seconds and analyze. SAP is building around its entire product and sales structure around Hana and cloud offerings.

When Hana cloud platform is not about the distribution of its own Hana-products, but the business partners. To program applications for Hana and feed in the family, similar to the App Store from Apple developers on the platform. The Walldorf Company has resolved its fast database technology Hana to establish a standard in the IT industry. On October 20, SAP reports its financial results for the third quarter.

SAP's Solution should be cheaper

Manager magazine online is the Board paper before with the sobering Hana cloud platform numbers. Development Chef Bernd Leukert and Sales Director Rob Ensslin are responsible for the area. Thus, the software company is pricing model fits to the competitive offer of nearest rivals Salesforce.com for its Hana platform in the cloud. An SAP spokesman declined to comment on the subject.

Currently, customers would have to pay to use the service for SAP in the least case $ 5,932 a month, according to the summary. When competitors Salesforce.com against only 25 dollars would be due in the best case. "This slows down the adoption of the market," the study concludes. Why would the pricing of SAP "similar adapted from Salesforce.com with better terms to similar price points, including a free Home Edition". The aim of the new strategy is to "aggressively pursue the market acceptance (of Hana Cloud platform) and to propose Force.com". However, the revenue goals remain modest in the business. By 2020, SAP plans to deliver with his Hana cloud platform around 158 million euros; it is clear from the paper.

SAP Provides Cloud Option for the Business Suite too

Users should continue to reflect the Business Suite as a rental solution from SAP. The new cloud - based forms offer their own in-memory database platform HANA. Details such as the pricing yet let the software giant, however, open.
SAP ongoing restructuring of its software portfolio in the direction of cloud computing moving forward. After the German software giant already has its in-memory database for rental from the IT cloud offering with the HANA platform, now followed by other application packages. User could in future also SAPs most important business software solution "SAP Business Suite ", order and use on the basis of Hana Enterprise Cloud in a subscription model, according to an official communication from Walldorf.

"This is a significant step in the transformation SAPs," said SAP's board member and technology chief Vishal Sikka’s latest initiative. The new offering underscores the cloud commitment of Germany's largest software maker. Sikka also announced, with a global network of its own data centers and additional migration services for its clients to accelerate its cloud plans. The manager promised the users more choice in relation to the compilation of business applications as well as a significantly simplified operation of the business software landscape.
SAP Provides Cloud Option for the Business Suite too

SAP cloud offer details remain open

Apart from the mere announcement of the latest SAP foray to date remains, however, not very concrete. The "SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud" offers future applications such as the "SAP Business Suite", the “SAP Business Warehouse" and the "SAP HANA Platform" in a subscription model, according to the announcement SAPs. The software will operate safely in the regional SAP data centers around the world. Users could here let their business-critical applications running in a private managed cloud environment. Further details, such as dependencies between certain modules or release conditions of cloud -powered software components as well as for Pricing remained the SAP responsible or guilty.

But just the financial details should the user companies particularly interested. Because the transition to the cloud does not necessarily mean that the software is operating effectively. SAP had recently announced the pricing for its cloud-based HANA platform known - and has it well within himself. Including computing infrastructure and HANA database will be due depending on additional options between about 4,600 and $ 87,700 per month. While there are opportunities for SAP customers to transfer existing licenses to the cloud and to take individual software components that will be in the future based in the cloud, from the on-premise maintenance? The extent to which the customer benefits from the fact, however, is likely to depend in large parts on the individual negotiation skills.

Customizing can cause problems in cloud migration

In addition, several questions remain open. Thus we read in the recent SAP announcement that existing maintenance contracts possess also migrated to the cloud applications continue to be valid. As a rental model fits with maintenance fees that SAP Manager will still have to explain in detail. It remains to also consider, entire customer installations transfer into the IT cloud easily. SAP itself says that there could be some limitations, especially in connection with the customer-or product-specific configurations at one point or another.

To pave the way for customers to cloud, SAP plans to offer additional services. The in-house service department will offer special cloud transformation services to convert existing SAP applications into the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud. The leg also consider the integration of on-premise software or other SAP cloud solutions such as the acquired Success Factors Human Resources applications (HR ) and also purchased cloud-based procurement platform, Ariba. More than 15,000 specialists stood According to SAP ready to assist customers in their cloud plans.

The software manufacturer builds for its cloud strategy also its data centers continue. Worldwide there are currently 16 facilities, so those responsible from Walldorf. It was not until the beginning of April they had taken for the Asia-Pacific region, the first two data centers in Tokyo and Osaka in operation. All SAP data centers were working with in-memory technology and high -end servers to ensure the high standards of business critical workloads. With data centers globally distributed SAP plans for its customers, whilst also ensuring that regional and national rules for compliance are met.

SAPs path to the cloud remains stony

With his announcement, now offer the business suite for rental, SAP underlines although its cloud ambitions. However, there remains a long way. It is clear that customers want cloud-based on-demand software, said Steve Lucas, president of platform solutions from SAP. It will, however, take until the change had taken place over a wide area in the market. Many users are still skeptical to outsource mission-critical applications and data to the cloud. According to a survey of the German-speaking SAP User Group (DSAG ), only three percent of the 400 surveyed IT managers want to make this year IT funds for SAP's cloud offerings loosely. In addition was observed that SAP offers are not necessarily set when users interested in cloud solutions found DSAG CEO Marco Lenck. Users of SAP's on-premise software analyzed their requirements in detail and then analyzed the products that fit their landscape - with different software and cloud providers.

Also for SAP itself is the shift to the cloud is anything but simple. It is the major software vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle and SAP have a hard time to solve their dependence on traditional licensing maintenance business with which they have earned over the past decades a lot of money. The provider must be satisfied with much lower margins in the cloud business. This is about operational efficiency and mass. And also the flagship company of the IT cloud does not always simple. Cloud pioneer Salesforce.com, which with its CRM solutions in recent years, although got off to a rapid revenue growth, writes today in the red.

However, the SAP as well as the other software grandees will remain no choice but to continue ride on the cloud train - also because the traditional business with on- premise software is proving increasingly difficult in the saturated markets of Western economies, and companies to become more responsive, especially in the rapidly developing markets in Brazil, China and India in the direction of cloud offerings - but want to invest little money.

Ambitious goals with cloud solutions

The SAP executives pursue nonetheless ambitious goals. Already next year they intend to implement two billion euros with cloud offerings - that would be ten percent of the targeted 2015 total sales of 20 billion euros. In return, the software specialists from Baden, however, would have to increase significantly. Last year, SAP reportedly stood over 700 million euros in cloud revenue impact. This would require almost a tripling of cloud revenue in order to achieve the self- designated benchmark until next year.

Partners imagine SAP ByDesign

Not SAP itself, but four SAP partners today have specially organized a conference call to the level of press representatives to break a lance for online SAP ERP solution, “Business ByDesign", and to speak against the "emerging unrest ".

Partners imagine SAP ByDesign
The "trouble” was triggered by an article in the 'Business Week ' ten days ago. This was reported to be SAP Online prestige project whose development has probably cost in recent years, several billion euros, lack of success stop. The development would be discontinued, and only a small team will take care of the maintenance of the product. SAP, however, denied this. The development will only braked and released for developers used to a new technological platform to bring ByDesign, SAP HANA in-memory technology. HANA in the future should form the common basis for all cloud offerings from SAP. ByDesign will be so far removed from the market.

Believe in SAP
The four

ByDesign Partner intelligence, All for One Steeb, Anthesis and Alpha Business Solutions wanted to reiterate today, especially this message: ByDesign live on and will continue to contribute to their stores. The development of ByDesign had been started ten years ago to the then latest technological platform. A technological innovation is therefore only logical. "We are talking about an important transitional phase in the SAP more development resources in the technical transformation as in the functional development of SAP Business ByDesign infected," said Henrik Hausen, CEO of Alpha Business Solutions. Then will then amplify again of the functional expansion cloud offering - with a clear roadmap - invest and: "We would not be here if we did not believe it."

For the functional development of ByDesign declared the four partners that SAP had assured the next two releases, 13:11 and 14:02 to deliver as advertised. Even then it will still be further developments, but in smaller increments or “hot fixes ".

That SAP is the online solution is now setting on the latest technological basis is welcome news. This will bring major improvements in performance and more stability. The standardization of the technology have been quite different cloud solutions on a single platform, added the Intelligence - man Wolfgang Kroner, will also develop adaptations and extensions for SAP cloud solutions through partners make "dramatically easier ".

Anthesis boss Inge Kipping explained that even existing customers ByDesign - which itself belongs Anthesis - the technological development would be welcomed. Also, the acquisition of new customers, she believes, is still possible, “if you told them the job well enough.”

That the transformation at least brings uncertainties, but was also acknowledged in the conference call. So be sure, for example, a large effort for SAP and its partners to make the transition smooth for customers. Moreover, the time at which permeated the case to the public, was safely unhappy. Still, there is the part of SAP's no roadmap for the future of ByDesign. How long could take the transition phase, i.e. still in the stars, as well as the partners had to admit today. And if the “new engine" for Business ByDesign, and other cloud solutions, then really goes well, the ERP giant has yet to prove it. (Hansjorg Maron)

STRENGTH IN AGRICULTURAL SECTOR

The Agricultural Cooperative Me, Goias, adopted the SAP Hana platform to accelerate and optimize their processes with the generation and analysis of real-time reporting.

"That first time, our expectation is to reduce the time of generation and analysis of our twenty largest real-time reporting - a process that is currently done in production environment and competes with the production environment," said Oliveira.

Founded in 1975 in Rio Verde, Me is a cooperative processing, industrialization and marketing of agricultural products. She currently has 6000 members and 2000 employees, getting between six main cooperatives in the country.

The business with the cooperative Goias is another step in the SAP sedimentary its presence in the agribusiness segment.

This year, the German company signed new contracts with the Kepler Weber, giant Gaucho storage, processing and handling of grain, and the Ctrough, Parana which is one of the largest agro-industrial cooperatives in the country.

Earlier in 2012, the company had 800 clients of agribusiness in the country, nearly half of the 2000 worldwide.

It's virgin territory: Agribusiness represents over 22% of national GDP, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. At the same time, a study by IDC shows that the sector accounts for only 2% of the Brazilian IT market.

SAP introduces roadmap for HANA in-memory database

SAP has introduced a roadmap for its HANA in-memory database. In a 51-page document, the Walldorf software company goes into his plans, but without naming specific time window. He also noted that there could still be changes at any time.

SAP introduces roadmap for HANA in-memory database
First, SAP is planning improvements for the Business Suite, more integration with real-time data-Platforms and improved support for third party products. New are also planned in the modeling, with the manageability and feasibility. And the platform will grow better together with other Big Data technologies. To this end, SAP plans to optimize about the native support of Hadoop.

Longer term perspective, Business Suite are better adapted to the functional level to the real-time technology. Users will give more choice and flexibility in deployment of SAP HANA. More interoperability for R, better fracture orientation, and new features for AFL (Application Function Library) are amongst other features, also planned.

With stronger integration of Sybase PowerDesigner and Sybase IQ also the manageability of HANA to be optimized. Future would be to embed the technology from Sybase IQ in HANA. New was to be expected even with HANA analytics applications, as well as predictive, it said.

"Project Kraken" HP and SAP provide single server for Big Data

Hewlett Packard and SAP have presented at the end of the Sapphire Now conference in Orlando, a community project to reduce the hardware requirements for processing large amounts of data clearly and Big Data applications, thereby making more efficient at the same time. "Octopus Project" combines HP's server technology with SAP's HANA in-memory database.

IBM EX5 server family for SAP HANA

The main advantage of the prototype shown is that it triples the memory size of a single, scalable server for complex, data-intensive workloads. The system uses 16 CPUs from Intel's Xeon E7 processor family (also known as Ivy Bridge-EX) and supports up to 12 TB of storage in a server unit. Currently apply industry-wide as the standard 4 TB.
"Project Kraken" HP and SAP provide single server for Big Data

As with most new enterprise technologies - whether hardware or cloud solutions - the goal is to improve business processes by facilitating the establishment and the processing time is reduced. Project Kraken is aimed at a variety of vertical sectors of Government, health and finance to trading. Possible scenarios are Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), supply chain management (SCM) and data analysis.

"Show with Project Kraken HP and SAP how customers can carry out a performance boost, while simultaneously simplifying the management of the infrastructure," said Vihsal Sikka, CTO and CEO of SAP. "It shows how large companies can have their enterprise applications, including SAP Business Suite, with growing amounts of data in a shorter run time. This offer will change the database market fundamentally and permanently. "

The server prototype was shown this week at the Now Sapphire. But neither HP nor SAP commented on them when the system is on the market for data analysis.

Sapphire Now: SAP plans to accelerate its own database

SAP is in a hurry. The new database technology Hana is "the fastest growing product in the enterprise software industry," said SAP co-CEO Jim Hagemann Snabe on Wednesday at the Sapphire Now customer Exhibition in Orlando. Hana'll especially from German customers "very, very good" believed Germany boss Harry Thomsen said at the same event in the domestic Walldorf.

Sapphire Now: SAP plans to accelerate its own database

The center launched in 2011 Hana database technology that enables the analysis of data in real time, in addition to rental offers, so-called cloud solutions and software for mobile devices such as mobile phones and tablets is the most important growth area of SAP. So far, the revenue share is still small. After 392 million euros last year, SAP plans to implement this year, between 650 million and 700 million euros with Hana.

The total annual sales of SAP 2012 amounted to 16.2 billion euros. The broad market launch of SAP’s standard software on the database has taken place much earlier than planned, Snabe said. This is unusual. Usually, the introduction of software delaying rather, said IDC analyst Ruediger Spies. The painful experience of the rental software with SAP homemade "by Design". But with its new database offering penetrates the software maker in the core business of his arch-rival Oracle, which so far just like IBM provided the basis for SAP's enterprise software.

SAP's core application is software that enables companies to plan their business processes - from warehousing to personnel and financial planning to sales concepts. In the databases store the information necessary to plan programs. Oracle manager Mark Hurd is still left. "These customers are not SAP customers, but everyone's customers," Hurd said on Wednesday told reporters in Munich. Oracle was still very pleased with the agreement for the joint installation of SAP applications with Oracle databases.

That could change: The database technology Hana was very much in demand in the German market, said Germany boss Harry Thomsen. Numbers did not call Thomsen. The positive reaction in the domestic market is an important signal. SAP recently made about 14 percent of its product sales in Germany. About a week ago SAP announced to offer its database technology as a platform for Rent Hana on our own servers. Several German customers have already expressed interest, Thomsen said. So far, however, no contracts had yet been completed, because the prices are not yet facts are clear.

SAP Launches "HANA Enterprise Cloud"

SAP offers its in-memory database appliance HANA now also in a cloud version. Users can use the "HANA Enterprise Cloud" with their ERP, CRM or Business Warehouse solutions. Through partner companies, SAP also provides them as a managed service.

With the new company could offer quickly scale into the petabyte range, stressed Vishal Sikka, CTO and Executive Board of SAP, in a conference call. Applications could be accelerated through the cloud with real-time capabilities.

SAP Launches "HANA Enterprise Cloud"

According to SAP, Sikka has worked for over two years to the cloud-based offering. The actual cloud service will be initially only from the Walldorf Group itself. However, at the Sapphire conference in Orlando and the Partner Summit, he will announce details about the Partner Program for Managed Services.

The new cloud offering does not mean the end of the HANA appliances that come from manufacturers such as HP, IBM, Fujitsu and Huawei, stressed Sikka. "We're talking about an open-plus-one strategy that opens up another option for users."

In a further step, it should then give the HANA cloud for users who want to pursue this in their own environment. Currently exists in SAP but this still does not match it. Future could all cloud services are based on the SAP HANA cloud, so Sikka.

The technological approach describes the SAP CTO with a "resilient infrastructure." The solution is achieved without virtualization technologies. They run directly on the hardware, to allow maximum performance. Nevertheless, it was possible through pooling, or cell configurations, add or subtract server resources. SAP generally have put a lot of work into tools and administration tools for the new service. Among other things, the cloud provides frame monitor for user-friendly provisioning of HANA cloud instances.

So that SAP may also be some technical problems that currently exist with HANA appliances address. So far, HANA was very difficult to use in virtualized environments, so the solution was restricted to physical hardware. Users who wanted to offer HANA several business areas, customers or tenants, therefore, had problems. With the new management layer SAP bypasses das. Also in their own interest, such as Forrester analyst Stefan Ried commented. Because otherwise could hardly introduce economically SAP HANA as a cloud service.

To use the HANA Enterprise Cloud, customers first need the appropriate software licenses for SAP Business Suite, SAP HANA, and SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse, as the manufacturer informs. It also existing licenses can be used. Then, SAP provides the necessary migration tools available. The service itself can subscribe monthly. The costs will be calculated depending on the size and scope of data and applications.
